"I was tired of feeling afraid"
What if you could become more prepared, more self-reliant, learn valuable prepping skills, and become the hero your family looks up to... all in 30 days?
I was tired of being afraid.

The crickets were on full display that night, a choir of chirping with no concern of who might be listening.

I’d left the windows wide open intentionally, hoping to lure in a rogue breeze into the fan-less bedroom. All I wanted that night was just a few moments of reprieve from the summers blistering heat to keep me sane.

Laying on top of sweat dampened covers, I was blanketed in deep thoughts and there were no dreams that night.

With my mind racing, I kept reassuring myself that everything would be ok, telling my wife not to worry and that things would work out… (I didn’t completely believed myself, but I had to remain strong and hope that somehow, someway, we’d be okay.)

To help keep the worst of the demons at bay, I conjured up some helpful clichés: “focus on how lucky you are”, “live in the moment”, “too blessed to be stressed”.

But that night, none of these tricks had any magic left. I had seen the trick for what it was, and it could no longer be unseen. It was the first time in my life that I took off my rose-colored glasses and saw the perceived security of our modern-day’s society for what it is; an act.

We are not as secure as many pundits would like you to think. And you can’t rely on anyone saving you when everyone is trying to save themselves. Who will respond when the police are at home fending for themselves?

It was 2008 in Atlanta, Georgia and the city was out of fuel.

That night, I woke up at 3am and reluctantly pulled myself out of bed to search the internet for any updates on the fuel crisis.

A status report, a comment, a map marker, any sign of hope.

At first there was nothing. Just false hopes and old leads. No reliable information worth the risky pursuit of fuel.

My truck was below empty, my wife’s Jeep was down to a quarter tank and we both were supposed to be at work the next day.

Not to mention that we were long overdue for a grocery run. Local food supplies were getting low and the grocery store was miles away.

After about 45 minutes of scouring the search engines, a bit of luck was discovered. A single tanker of gas was unloading at a Conoco station 9 miles away. Someone had left a comment on a local blog and said, “cars were starting to line up”.

I woke up the wife, threw on some torn jeans, and grabbed my 2 empty gas containers.

That night I got the gas I needed to go to work and the grocery store the next day. But this weird, unexpected hiccup opened my eyes. It made me realize just how vulnerable we are… What happens if gas was no longer readily available for a week? A month? A year? Longer?

What happens if the power grid goes out for a week? A month? A year?

What happens when the economy collapses, and we dive back into an unemployment nightmare to match or exceed the Great Depression?

Our modern society works pretty well when all our modern systems are working as they should. A well-oiled machine with goods and services an ancient king could never have dreamed of. Entertainment at the press of a button, limitless amounts of information with the click of a mouse, soft beds, indoor plumbing, and climate control.

As a society we have become accustom to these luxuries, so it’s become nearly impossible to believe it wasn’t always like this. And we rarely realize that it could all go away if one of societies arteries was severed.

America has several weaknesses. Weaknesses that can be exploited in a number of ways. Weaknesses that can bring our modern society crashing down and only the truly self-reliant will survive.

That hot summer night in Atlanta I knew I was not ready, and it scared the crap out of me. I knew that I was not prepared, not even remotely close. I knew that if any major event (you pick) were to happen, my family and I were screwed. I was the furthest thing from being the hero that they looked up to.

The gas crisis in 2008 was when I realized that I was 100% reliant on others and 0% self-reliant.

I had yet to learn of the real harsh realities of this world but after that night my eyes had been opened.

Ever since then I have made it my mission to become completely self-reliant.

I have invested thousands of hours into research, preparation, and execution and now I’m no longer afraid.

I have set myself and my family up to be ready for anything and I look back fondly on that muggy night in 2008 when I truly woke up and started my journey to become my family’s protector.

Now I’m not sure if you’ve experienced your awakening yet, and at this point it really doesn’t matter. I’m here urging you to think long and hard while you lovingly stare into the eyes of your family and assess your current state of self-reliance.

Are you ready for a food, fuel, or water crisis? How would you fare if the power went out for even 2 or 3 days?

Could you withstand a flood, ice storm, tornado, hurricane, or wildfire?

Are you 100% reliant on others and our society’s vulnerable systems (grid, grocery, water, etc.), like I was back in 2008?

If you are, or if you simply want to improve your preparedness, I want to invite you to join me for an upcoming 30 Day Prepper Challenge that starts tomorrow morning.

Each day, you’ll receive a new carefully curated prepper challenge by email and over the course of the month we’ll work on you becoming more prepared, more self-reliant, learning valuable prepping skills, and become the hero your family looks up to.

You’ll have the choice of 3 levels of difficulty for each prepper challenge: Basic, Intermediate, and Advanced. It’s up to you which level you want to complete.

The basic level challenge can be completed from the comfort of your own home and will consist of learning, reading, and watching information on prepping. The intermediate level will be achieved when you actually perform the task and the advanced level takes things one step further.

An example of a prepper's challenge would be the extremely valuable prep of fuel storage (what I wouldn’t have given for a few tanks worth of gas stored at home back in Atlanta in 2008).

The Basic Prepper Challenge would be to read a comprehensive article on how to properly store fuel for the long haul (I'll send you this valuable article on Day 8).

The Intermediate Prepper Challenge will be to figure out which fuels you want to store and where the safest place is to store these fuels.

A storage shed is best, a garage is ok for small amounts (but not ideal). Never store spare fuels inside your home!

And the Advanced Prepper Challenge will be to go out and get some extra fuel to store with a plan to either:

1) condition the fuel annually, or
2) rotate the extra fuel continuously

How much should you store? It depends on your situation.

Shoot to store at least a couple of vehicle fill-up’s worth – minimum. But feel free to store a lot more than that, if you have a safe space to put it and a proper rotation plan.

Please note: Some residential laws restrict the amount of fuel you can store on your property. So always check on these laws before you break the law by stockpiling a bunch of extra fuel.

The confidence, preparedness, and self-reliance you stand to gain from actually completing each of these prepper challenges has the potential to be nothing short of life changing.

At the end of the 30 days, if only one of these perpper challenges increase your chance for surviving an emergency, wouldn’t that be worth it?

You’ve always wanted to become more prepared and more self-reliant… how do I know that? You’re on, what would be, page 4 of a 1,417 word letter.

Give yourself these 30 days to bring yourself closer to becoming the hero that your family looks up to and your goal of total self-reliance.

Reading about prepping is great, but reading about the right preps, in the right order, and then actually doing those preps is what will benefit you the most. We've carefully crafted both the list of preps and the order of the challenges so you can make the most progress in 30 only days.

“I just finished reading the first issue of the Beyond The Bug Out Bag Newsletter from the Skilled Survival Alliance, and I’m very impressed. Anyone can fill a newsletter with facts about emergency preparedness and survival, but not anyone can do it in a way that is easy to understand and a pleasure to read.

Most of the articles use real-life examples of what to do (or not to do) in order to make the lessons sink in. And in addition to great advice for preppers, the newsletter features full color photos and survival gear reviews that list pros and cons so you can make an informed decision.
